Today is World Liver Day. Let's learn a few Nutritional tips to keep your liver healthy.
1. The liver is a potent detox organ. This process is done during the night in the sleep. Sleeping between 11pm to 3am is very crucial as the liver detoxifies our system during that period. Support your detoxification procedure by supplying it with B- vitamins like B12, folic acid, B6, B5, and good quality proteins.
2. The liver is the organ of your glucose metabolism. It keeps your blood sugars under check. Excess sugars in the blood are converted to fat as triglycerides. If this fat deposition exceeds it leads to fatty liver issues. So focus on eating low GI foods like vegetables, whole grains to reduce the burden on the liver.
3. Thyroid hormone metabolism happens in the liver, it needs support of iron, selenium and zinc. Include lentils, green leafy vegetables, brazil nuts, sesame seeds, eggs and shell fish in your diet to support this metabolism.
4. Fat gets metabolized using Bile acids that are secreted by the liver. If the liver is clogged, there will be an imbalance in lipids. Avoid deep-fried foods, excess red meat, and processed meats in the diet.
5. Do not burden the liver with excess alcoholism, this causes liver cirrhosis.
6. Beware of Hepatitis infections following hygiene is very important. Handwashing with soap after using the washroom is a must. This is the route for hepatitis infections. Especially Hepatitis B.
7. An article published by Kerry- Anne O'Kane about -" Liver from a Chinese Medicine perspective" stated that the flow of liver energy is very much related to emotional flow. If the energy flow is obstructed then you might experience depression, Frustration, and Repressed anger.
